ONCE AGAIN, THE HEAVY HAND OF PHIL GRAY HAS WIELDED HIS INJUSTICE AND REIGN OF TERROR IN WORDSTEAL. HE HAS RESORTED TO MUTING PEOPLE FOR DOING @SEEN WITH THE BOT AND BANNING WHEN SOMEONE ANSWERS ANOTHER PLAYERS QUESTION RE THE MUTING. NEITHER PLAYER WAS ARGUMENTATIVE OR DISPRESPECTFUL. IT JUST SHOWS HOW SOMEONE SO INTELLIGENT AS MARK BYERS CAN LACK THE EXPERIENCE OF LIFE WHEN SELECTING HOSTS TO OVERSEE HIS SITE. A GAME SITE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PLACE FOR FUN AND RELAXATION, BUT MARKS SELECTION OF HOSTS HAS TURNED IT INTO A PLACE FOR HIS HOSTS TO RELIEVE THEIR FRUSTRATIONS OF LIFE UPON OTHERS WHO COME THERE FOR ENTERTAINMENT. WHAT A SHAMEFUL PITY TO WASTE SUCH EFFORT AND HARD WORK BY MARK AND LEAVE SO MANY WITH A NEGATIVE FEELING TOWARDS THE SITE, IT WAS A FUN PLACE BEFORE HOSTS. THE IGNORE FEATURE WORKED JUST FINE.
Thats nothing, Shiloh bans people for saying "Bitch", yet Phil Gray allows his pals to say "ass" and "G-ddamn" repeatedly in the lobby when he is present. Favortism at its best, and inconsistent execution of rules, but if you ask him to address it, he will give you some lame response. Forget about screen shots, its the land of Dictator Phil, fairness and justice are not the order of the day. Makes one wonder why Mark Byers put so much effort into a site and then gave the keys away to such incompetence.
Shiloh has muted people in moderated for things they have said in unmoderated. Why don't players go to unmoderated and escape the tyranny?
It's so pathetic, just cos they have no SOH means we all gotta be the same. No-one at all has said anything really dirty or offensive that I've seen, I agree that Mark is letting his wonderful site to go to wrack and ruin with these nazi power hungry hosts, hopefully he will see it sooner rather than later.
Searching thru blogs for wordsteal/wordox comments and i found this and i have something to say. I started playing at wordsteal 3 or 4 months ago. I started playing many years ago on the origanal java site , played at hoyle and the uk java site. I like the innovations at the MB wordsteal but i must say i have never seen a bigger group of highly rated wimps in my life. I carry a 2450-2550 rating but i play anyone who knocks on the table door. Who gives a shit if they use a different name at hoyle? Sprout a set of gonads and play the game and learn from each opponent good or bad.

Wimps indeed. I have given up trying to play at Wordsteal, I try to join games and 9 times out of 10, I am refused. A word of explanationg or a sorry in the lobby would help! I played in the old java site until I found Hoyle where the players at least were polite and friendly. OK my rating isnt up to much but I get no chance to improve it, not that I care much about ratings. All I want is a good game, win or lose, I play for fun. Yes I know, I should play in the unrated room but mostly that seems to be empty. When Hoyle was out of action, I tried to play at the UK site but was ashamed at the way the players there treated the Hoyle refugees - and I am from the UK!! I would like to thank Mark though for getting this site up and running for people, even if some of them dont deserve it!

Have any of you tried the new room yet? It is called THE LULU CLUBHOUSE and it is located on the bottom of the home page. It is brand new and you will find that the hosts and players there are very friendly :) It's a much more relaxed atmosphere - although abuse and very foul language isnt tolerated. The hosts are pretty cool and they arent sitting there with their finger on a MUTE or BAN button. They chat with and also play newcomers - not just each other. Right now - it is busiest in the late afternoon for those in North America or late at night for those in UK. More and more people are checking it out. P.S. I am not a host - lol.
Hi readers (and no doubt dismayed fellow wordsteal players) ...
Yes, I am in full agreement with other subscribers here. I have been, on more than one occasion, the victim of the Executioner's* wilful and untimely, merciless and forbidding, cowardly, callous, chilling, cold, sterile, sharp axe! *(that's my own nickname for Phil T Gray - yes there is a "T" in his email addy). This I found out the othr day, when much to my horror, his name appeared on the acknowledgement email to the one I sent to another email addy that I had written to applying for a vacancy to "Host" a few times a week in the night games. However, I don't hold up much chance now I have found out he must pick the new 'Hosts' (Shock! Gasp! Or maybe I shouldn't be, lol!)
My main grievance is that he'll ban you for the least thing. Eg., on one occasion just recently, I was having a little pow-wow with a few players in the forum. Now, as 'B00m' I come across, sometimes as a brash, aloof, no holds bar personality, but it's only a game, tongue-in-cheek' stuff, and most players know this in the game. I'll pull a few legs and 'tickle' the lady's fancy, so to speak, lol.
Now, all very well, if a host steps in and warns you to moderate the tone, etc, etc, that's fair enough, but Mr Gray will simply write a short sentence in the yellow private message stating something like that I have been using abusive language in the forum. This appears for about 5 seconds and you find yourself banned util you come back to say sorry and grovel to him for his forgiveness. I did, admittedly, after 3 weeks of missing the site, sometimes I wish I hadn't!
Something must be done to curtail this blatant misuse of power! The other admins aren't so bad, but they follow suit, esp if PG is around!
Oh, just to give a vote to the previous writer's praise of "Lulu's Clubhouse" - a great bunch of friendly guys. Please visit and pass the word, lol!

I posted a message in the forum the other day re the Lulu room, it's been deleted by the "heirachy" (so they like to think!)for being quote" innacurate" FFFFFFS the whole forum contains utter boll***s from Shiloh that only morons might find interesting!
I have to agree that the hosts, who leave alot to be desired, have utterly ruined what used to be a really good site........Mark is totally in denial about the monsters he has created! He just isn't intersted! I find that quite odd?
Oh well.....good job there IS life outside wordsteal (except for the saddo hosts that is) lol ;) xx
there once was a site called wordsteal happy it used to make me feel then one day they got a host called gray and all the happiness went far far away
I dont understand all the bitching about the hosts. If you just play the game, do your best to not be a poser and stay away from the lobby bullshit there wont be a problem
Thats a laugh perrin, I do all three but as an adult I think I'm entitled to have fun with my friends as and how I wish and I will. I broke no rules ever, I've played in wordox/hoyle for many years with not even a warning let alone a mute or banning I did nothing wrong as their "evidence" showed and when they can't prove their case they go into ignoramus mode and ignore you, seems to be a personal quailty essential to becoming a host (as well as a low IQ) and Mark is just as ignorant as them. To sum up I refuse to conform and be the kind of person they want me to be and go begging for forgiveness and to own up to something I didn't do is totally unacceptable to me, people think they have the power over who plays or dosen't but they don't, I can email and get unbanned but thats in MY power not theirs.
Hey Perrin I popped in the ladder room today with a mind to joining but I seem to have got off to a bad start with your HTD, what is she, the host police? She even sent a mistaken PM to me stating that if I join she'll get my IP and zap me I mean wtf? she dosen't even know me!!! whats that about? she then proceeded
in front of everyone to tell me that If I cause trouble I'll be out errr what trouble have I ever caused in the time you've known me? Suffice to say, I'll not be joining your ladder.
I queried how you lot are able to addy as much as you do when we had strict limits, almost got to the point when we needed permission to take a pee. So now maybe you'll see, if ya face fits with the hitlers you'll do ok and not be so quick to blame the innocent players :)

I wish that more of you would spread the word about the lulu clubhouse and come play there more, I know its frustrating when theres no-one there but the only way is to get people in and show those morons we don't need their babysitting services ;)
Yea, 3 months on and still nothing's changed much, except I go to play interactrivia where the peeps are much more adult about things, more humourous and far more friendly.
There's no need even for administrators or the like which says a lot.
